In 60 words
Shopify deployed in 2026 a dedicated Agentic Storefronts admin page that exposes your products to ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot, Google AI Mode and Gemini. If the page shows “Agentic storefronts aren’t available”, one of the 4 official criteria is unmet: US sales, products in Catalog, Supplemental Terms, or policies. Verity Score audits the 4 criteria automatically.
The 4 official Shopify criteria
Source: Help Center official: requirements. To activate Agentic Storefronts, all criteria must be satisfied:
1. The store sells to customers in the United States
This is the #1 cause of the “Agentic storefronts aren’t available” message. The Shopify doc is explicit: “Your store must sell to customers in the United States, however, your store can be based outside the United States.”
Concrete action: Shopify Admin → Settings → Markets → Add market → United States. Configure shipping rates for United States. The store can stay based in France, Belgium or elsewhere, but the US market must be active.
2. Products eligible for Shopify Catalog
Source: official Catalog requirements. Each product must satisfy:
- Published to Online Store, Hydrogen or Headless channel
- Image present on at least one variant
- Valid price (min 0.01 USD, max 50,000 USD or equivalent)
- Currency declared on the price
- Standardized Shopify product category assigned (not just a custom product type)
- Not in the prohibited products list (age-restricted, hazardous, etc.)
- Not B2B-only (B2B-only products are excluded from Catalog)
- Not flagged with SEO hidden metafield
Concrete action: for each product, Shopify Admin → Products → [product] → Product organization → Category and choose a category from the Shopify Standard Product Taxonomy. Verify the product is published to Online Store in the Sales channels section.
Passing these requirements establishes eligibility, not visibility. The next check is whether the product record is complete, consistent and useful for an actual shopping intent; use the Shopify Catalog → ChatGPT visibility diagnostic for that step.
3. Agentic Storefronts Supplemental Terms accepted
The merchant must explicitly accept the Shopify Agentic Storefronts Supplemental Terms of Service. This is a distinct consent from the general Shopify Terms of Service.
Concrete action: on the admin.shopify.com/store/{store}/apps/agentic page, click the “Supplemental Terms” link and validate.
4. Required policies completed
Three policy pages are required in Settings → Policies:
- Terms of service
- Privacy policy
- Return and refund policy
Shopify provides default templates, but they must at minimum be saved (not left empty).
Concrete action: Shopify Admin → Settings → Policies and complete the 3 pages at minimum.
Passing all four criteria establishes channel eligibility. Eligibility does not guarantee retrieval or recommendation. Continue with the whole-store Shopify AI SEO checklist to verify product facts, pages, Catalog consistency and measurement.
How Verity Score audits these 4 criteria
Verity Score audits the 4 criteria automatically on every Shopify audit, in two modes:
Public audit mode (default)
Verity infers the 4 criteria from your site’s public signals:
- Criterion 1 (US market): combines hreflang
en-US, USD currency detected,og:locale en_US, sitemap/en-us/paths, exposed Shopify Markets metadata. If ≥ 2 signals: statuslikely. If 1 signal:unknown(connected audit required). If 0:fail. - Criterion 2 (Catalog products): checks schema.org Product, image, price with currency, standardized Shopify product category. If all present:
likely. If ≥ 3 gaps:fail. - Criterion 3 (Supplemental Terms): cannot be inferred publicly. Always
unknownin public mode: connected audit needed to confirm. - Criterion 4 (Policies): combines
confirmedPolicyUrls,_policyCoherence, and_agenticEligibility.policiesPublished. If 3/3 detected or positive flag:likely. If < 1/3:fail.
Connected audit mode (Shopify Admin API)
When you install the Verity Score Shopify app, the audit reads the 4 criteria as ground-truth via Admin GraphQL API:
marketsquery → verifies the presence of a region with codeUScatalogquery → exact count of products in CatalogsupplementalTermsAcceptedboolean → explicit statuspoliciesquery → presence of the 3 required policies
The connected audit eliminates public mode ambiguities and gives definitive pass or fail status on each criterion.
What to do concretely now
- Open
admin.shopify.com/store/{your-store}/apps/agenticto see the current state. - If you see “Agentic storefronts aren’t available”: follow the 4 actions corresponding to the 4 criteria above, in order.
- If everything looks OK but the feature takes time to activate: this is Shopify’s progressive rollout, count a few days to a few weeks depending on your tier (source: Shopify news March 24, 2026).
- Re-check the 4 criteria one by one after each change: US market active, products in Catalog, Supplemental Terms accepted, 3 policies saved.
Why eligibility matters
Agentic Storefronts gives eligible Shopify products a documented distribution path to supported AI shopping channels. It does not replace Search eligibility, complete product data, current policies or market-specific availability. For ChatGPT, Shopify documents product discovery followed by checkout on the merchant’s own store and states that it does not add a separate selling fee.
